Types of Advertising
Advertising can be done in a number of ways, media ways of advertising include; billboards, noticeboard, flyers, radio and cinema adverts etc. advertisements are hugely important to any form of business as it gets the business name out there, builds up the businesses imagine and popularity as well as selling the products or services the business has to offer. There are two main forms of advertising, they are; physical and digital advertising. Below is a more in-depth look into these two forms of adverting;
Digital advertising
Radio advertising - obviously this is vocal advertisements through radio stations, companies buy airtime from a station directly or through their network. Radio has its advantages as a form of advertising as it allows local businesses to get their name out there to a wide number of people through one form of advertising at a fairly good price. However it holds a disadvantage of being only vocal.
Online advertising - there are a variety of ways that a company can use the internet to promote their company and products. Some of the popular ways of advertising online are; adverts within search engines companies can pay search engines so that when a visitor searches for a specific product or service that company will appear on the side of the search results page. Another form of advertising that is becoming increasingly popular is social network advertising; this is due to the popularity of sites like Facebook and Twitter. There is also; email marketing, banner advertisements, pop-up windows etc.
TV and Music advertisements - TV adverts are the most popular form of advertising as they reach a massive amount of people in one go. However due to them being so good for advertisement it also means that they are the most expensive form of advertisement due to TV channels being able to charge such high prices as they know businesses will pay it. For example when big TV events come up a TV channel and charge as much as 2 million for a thirty second advertisement spot!
Physical advertisements
Celebrity advertising - this focuses purely on the use of celebrities and their popularity to sell a business's products. This works in a number of ways for example; by getting a celebrity to wear a brand out on numerous high profile events as well as in general wear so that they are pictured in it. Another way of doing this is by getting them to be part of your campaign for example the Walkers crisps adverts all-star Gary Linker and more recently Lionel Richie, so they sell their product off the celebrities name and popularity.
Press advertising - this means advertisements placed in newspapers and magazines, this is can be on either a national basis, in big name magazines or locally in small local village newspapers. Both forms of advertising are a great form of advertising as it allows companies to design their own advert and push their advertisements directly to their target market.
