Branding is one of the means by which a company seeks to raise the profile of its product. This and other forms of marketing are undertaken by advertising agencies that define their target audience and then actively promote the product to that audience. This is done using a variety of media such as television, radio, magazines, billboards and the Internet.

Branding is about creating an experience: in the case of the Internet, this means part of the overall user experience. Companies which are looking to maximise their presence on the Internet should use eye-catching graphics, a well designed logo and a memorable slogan in order to ensure that users will visit their website. Also, they need to ensure that their advert is easy to use, for example, the user can access the relevant site with 3 mouse clicks. Making this easy to use will lead to repeat visits by users.

Users have a short attention span so any company advertising its product needs to be aware of this and ensure that their website is consistent, accessible and efficient. If a user has been attracted by the brand, and subsequently the product it is advertising, then the company website needs to take full advantage of this.

Internet branding is a growth market and one that is increasingly, become a feature of many websites visited by users. The trick here is not to overwhelm the user with so many brands, which then causes them to have a frustrating experience. This results in this experience not being repeated.
